Detailed Itinerary

Arrival in Raipur

Arrive in the capital. Visit the Mahant Ghasidas Memorial Museum, one of India's oldest, to get an overview of the state's archaeology and tribal history. Overnight in Raipur.

The Buddhist Legacy of Sirpur

Full day excursion to Sirpur (80km). Explore the 7th-century brick Laxman Temple, the Gandheshwar Mahadev Temple, and the extensive Buddhist monastery ruins (Viharas). Return to Raipur.

Arang and Rajim

Visit the Jain temples of Arang (the "City of Temples") and proceed to Rajim, known as the "Prayag of Chhattisgarh." Explore the Rajiv Lochan temple complex at the confluence of three rivers. Return to Raipur.

Raipur to Kawardha

Drive to Kawardha (approx. 3-4 hours). Check into the Kawardha Palace or a rural retreat. Evening walk through the local markets.

Bhoramdeo Temple Complex

Spend the day at the Bhoramdeo Temple, famous for its intricate erotic carvings and Nagara-style architecture. Visit the nearby Madwa Mahal and Cherki Mahal.

A long drive south (approx. 5-6 hours). Upon arrival, settle into the Kanker Palace.

Explore the surrounding villages of the Gond and Muria tribes. Visit Gadiya Mountain for panoramic views and historical remains of the Kanker kings.

Terracotta and Textiles

Visit local workshops specializing in terracotta and the traditional Pata weaving of the region. Overnight in Kanker.

Drive to Kondagaon, the "Craft Capital of Bastar." Visit Dokra (bell metal) casting centers and the famous Shilpgram (craft village).
