About This Experience
A tribal tour through Assam and Meghalaya provides an in-depth experience of Northeast India's indigenous culture. Assam is characterized by the Brahmaputra River and various ethnic groups such as the Bodos, Misings, and Ahoms. Meghalaya is the traditional home of the matrilineal Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo tribes. This tour includes the Living Root Bridges of Nongriat, the Whistling Village of Kongthong, crystal clear waters of Dawki, the world's largest river island Majuli, and Kaziranga National Park.

Detailed Itinerary
Arrival in Delhi – Guwahati
Fly to Guwahati. Evening stroll by the Brahmaputra riverfront.
The Mother Goddess & The Lake
Morning visit to Kamakhya Temple (a seat of Shakti worship). Drive to Umiam Lake for a sunset boat ride. Overnight in Shillong.
Shillong – The Scotland of the East
Explore the Don Bosco Museum, Ward's Lake, and the local Police Bazar.
The Canyons of Laitlum
Drive to Laitlum Canyons. Hike down the 3,000 steps to the secluded village of Rasong.
Mawphlang Sacred Grove
Visit the Mawphlang Sacred Grove (a forest protected by ancient Khasi taboos). Late afternoon drive to Cherrapunjee (Sohra).
The Mist of Cherrapunjee
Visit Nohkalikai Falls and Mawsmai Cave. Explore the Seven Sisters Falls.
The Living Root Bridges
A full-day trek to Nongriat village to see the Double Decker Living Root Bridge. Stay overnight in a village homestay.
Kongthong – The Whistling Village
Drive to Kongthong. Here, mothers give their children a unique 'tune' instead of a name  a tradition called Jingrwai Iawbei.
Kongthong to Dawki
Travel south to the border town of Dawki. Evening camping at Shnongpdeng by the Umngot River.
Crystal Waters of Dawki
Morning boating on the transparent waters of the Umngot. Visit the Jaflong Zero Point (India-Bangladesh border).
The Jaintia Heartland (Jowai)
Drive to Jowai. Visit the Krang Suri Falls, famous for its turquoise blue water.
Garden of Monoliths
Explore Nartiang. Visit the Nartiang Monoliths (the largest collection in the world) and the 500-year-old Durga Temple.
Jowai Exploration
Visit Tyrshi Falls and the scenic Ialong Park overlooking the Pynthorwah Valley.
Return to Shillong
A slow drive back to Shillong. Stop at local markets to buy Jaintia handlooms and organic spices.
Shillong to Kaziranga
A long drive (approx. 6-7 hours) from the Meghalaya hills down to the plains of Kaziranga National Park.
Into the Tall Grass
Early morning Elephant Safari followed by an afternoon Jeep Safari in the Central Range. Look for the One-Horned Rhino.
Kaziranga – Orchids & Tea
Visit the Kaziranga Orchid and Cultural Park to see tribal dance performances and indigenous orchid species.
The Crossing to Majuli
Drive to Nimati Ghat and take the ferry across the Brahmaputra to Majuli, the world's largest river island.
Majuli – The Satras & Masks
Visit the Satras (monasteries). Watch the famous mask-making at Samaguri Satra and interact with the Mishing tribal community.
Majuli to Jorhat
Take the ferry back to the mainland. Explore the tea gardens of Jorhat and visit the Tocklai Tea Research Centre.
Jorhat to Guwahati
Drive back to Guwahati. Farewell dinner on a Brahmaputra dinner cruise.
Departure
Transfer to Guwahati Airport for your flight back to Delhi.
