About This Experience
West Bengal's tribal heartland includes the districts of Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, Birbhum, and the Sundarbans, home to various communities. Unique features include Chhau dance, Dokra craft, Sohrai and Khovar paintings, Baul music, and several festivals like Tusu Parab and Sohrai. Weekly haats sell tribal crafts, and village life includes forest foods and Bonbibi folklore. The tour takes you from the tribal forests of Jhargram to the terracotta temples of Bishnupur, Tagore's Shantiniketan, and the mangrove wilderness of the Sundarbans.

Detailed Itinerary
Kolkata – Jhargram
Arrive Kolkata. Train to Jhargram. Check into Jhargram Rajbari Tourism Property. Evening: walk to Chilkigarh Kanak Durga Temple + tribal market.
At Jhargram
Full day Jhargram. Visit Lodha & Santhal villages near Dholkat Pukuria. Learn about Chhau mask making and join a Dhamsa-Madal music session.
Jhargram – Belpahari
Drive to Belpahari. Homestay with Santhal family. Afternoon: Kankrajhore forest walk, visit Gadrasini Hills and Sabar tribe hamlets.

Morning Tusu Parab craft workshop - women make rice-powder folk art. Afternoon: Ketki Lake + Dhangikusum waterfall. Evening Baul-folk jam session.

Drive to Baranti. Lakeside tourism property. Afternoon: cycle through Muradi village, interact with Kheria Sabar community.

Drive to Bishnupur. Afternoon: Terracotta temples + Baluchari saree weaving clusters. Overnight.

Day trip to Bikna village - famous for Dokra metal craft. Spend time with Santhal/Munda artisan families, try your hand at lost-wax casting.
