About This Experience

Nagaland provides a rich cultural experience in India, with each village showcasing tribal history, social structures, and traditions. Key locations for a tribal tour include:1. **Mon District**: Home to the Konyaks, known for their headhunting history and facial tattoos. Longwa Village spans the India-Myanmar border, with the Chief’ s house crossing both. Hongphoi Village offers interactions with tattooed elders and insight into the Konyak lifestyle and woodcarving.2. **Mokokchung**: Central to the Ao tribe, famous for colorful shawls and the Moatsu festival. Ungma Village, the Ao's oldest and largest, is well-preserved with traditional log drums. Mopungchuket, a well-maintained village, offers parks and cultural insights through its museum.3. **Kohima & Surroundings**: Angami tribe's area known for agricultural practices and resistance against British rule. Khonoma Village is Asia's first "Green Village," notable for its sanctuary, stone forts, and cultivation systems. Touphema Village is a tourist spot with traditional huts and Angami cuisine. Kigwema Village, one of the oldest Angami villages, was a WWII battle site with historic architecture. Detailed Itinerary

Arrive Dimapur – Kohima

Arrive at Dimapur (by flight or train). Drive to Kohima (approx. 3 hours). Check into your hotel and spend the evening at the Kohima War Cemetery, a poignant memorial from WWII. Overnight.

Kohima – Khonoma (Angami Tribal Village)

Drive to Khonoma (approx. 1 hour). Spend the day in this "Green Village," known for its history of resistance against British rule and its pioneering conservation efforts. Overnight.

Khonoma Village Immersion

A full day to explore Khonoma’s unique alder tree cultivation and stone fortifications (Kharu). Engage with local weavers and woodcarvers. Overnight in a village homestay.

Khonoma – Touphema (Angami Nag Village)

Drive to Touphema (approx. 3 hours). This is a dedicated "Tourist Village" designed to showcase Angami heritage.

Touphema Exploration

Visit the local museum and walk through the old village. Stay in a traditional-style cottage and experience a communal Naga kitchen setting.

Touphema – Mokokchung

A scenic but long drive through the central hills (approx. 5-6 hours). Arrive in Mokokchung, the cultural center of the Ao tribe.

Mokokchung (Ungma & Longkhum Villages)

Visit Ungma, the oldest and largest Ao village. Later, head to Longkhum, perched at 1,846m.

Mokokchung (Mopungchuket Village)

Visit Mopungchuket, perhaps the best-kept village in Nagaland. See the "Tower of Adoration" and the wood carvings that tell the tragic love story of Jina and Etiben (the Romeo and Juliet of the Ao Nagas).

Mokokchung – Mon

A challenging but rewarding drive (approx. 8-9 hours) into the Mon district, the land of the Konyaks. This is the most remote part of the journey.

Mon (Chui & Shangnyu Villages)

Visit the Angh (King) of Chui. The Konyaks follow a hereditary monarchy system.

Mon – Longwa Village

Drive to Longwa (approx. 1.5 hours), situated right on the Indo-Myanmar border.

Longwa – Hongphoi Village

Spend the morning in Longwa meeting the border guards and local craftsmen. In the afternoon, visit Hongphoi, another village where many tattooed veterans still reside.

Mon – Dibrugarh

Descend from the Nagaland hills into the tea-rich plains of Assam (approx. 6-7 hours). Cross the border and notice the immediate change in landscape and climate.

Dibrugarh (Tea Garden Experience)

Relax after the rugged mountain journey. Take a tour of a heritage tea factory or walk through the sprawling gardens. Visit the local market along the Brahmaputra.

Dibrugarh Departure

Transfer to Dibrugarh Airport for your flight to Kolkata or Delhi.
